Chongqing Miao embroidery master Chen Guotao brought over 200 handmade crafts including round fans, earrings and brooches to the exhibition. She introduced that Miao embroidery is known as the“history book worn on the body”. For thousands of years, the Miao people have recorded nature and ethnic history through embroidery, with patterns rich in meaning, such as the magpie symbolizing good fortune, the phoenix representing auspiciousness, and the pomegranate signifying many children and blessings. It was reported that with the support of the Shandong-Chongqing cooperation mechanism, local intangible cultural heritage workshops have been established to innovate traditional Miao embroidery, and to expand production and sales channels.
In recent years, with the strong support of the East-West Cooperation project of Shandong Province, 32 Shandong-Chongqing co-built intangible cultural heritage workshops have been established in 14 districts and counties of Chongqing Municipality. These workshops have conducted over 3,900 person-times of intangible cultural heritage skill training in areas such as wood carving, embroidery and bamboo weaving, and cumulatively driven employment for over 10,000 people. These intangible cultural heritage workshops have played an important role in assisting the comprehensive revitalization of rural areas.
